Linwood

Linwood road is a supported living service with accommodation for two individuals. The house is deceivingly spacious and a small skilled team of staff supports the two men who live there.

For the first time this year following legislation passed by the Scottish Executive, the Care Commission inspected this supported living service.

These services was designed around the very specific needs of the two men and in the year since the service opened the men have developed positive relationships with each other and the staff team. The intimacy of the service has been of great benefit to the residents as it encourages their independence whilst ensuring that they have the security of the staff team.

Here is a section of a letter written by a relative of one of the residents;

“My son moved to Linwood in July 2005 after a year of stress for both of us. My son has Autistic tendencies and any change can be upsetting. There were many meetings and assessments during this time and I am not sure who was most harassed, my son or myself. However, the day came for him to move to his new home. I took him in my car hoping that this would be less upsetting for him. He was very apprehensive and not sure what was going on, could he trust what his father was telling him or was he going somewhere he would not like. Even I was not certain. However, we managed to get my son into his new home without much trouble. I stayed until he was relaxed enough for me to leave and let his new friends and carers take over. That was eight months ago and so far so good. I don’t want to tempt fate but I think he has settled very well. He is a happier person and gets on well with everyone in his new home, so now his father can relax as well.&lrquo;
